Located just south of Myinkaba Village in the Bagan Archeological Zone, Apeyadana Temple is named after Apeyadana, an 11th century chief queen consort of King Kyansittha of the Pagan Dynasty of Burma (Myanmar) and maternal grandmother of King Sithu I of Pagan. As with most Burmese names, it is transliterated into English in various ways. Other variations include Ape-ya-da-na, Ape-Yadana-Phaya, and Abeyadana.

  • Sacrifice sculpture by Leo Friedlander, one of four statues in the Arts of War, Sacrifice, and Valor series on the corners of Memorial Bridge and Theodore Roosevelt Bridge that were gifts from the people of Italy. The Sacrifice sculpture is on the northeast corner of the bridge and is the closest of the four to the Lincoln Memorial. The statues were dedicated on 26 September 1951.   • BAGAN, MYANMAR--Dating back to the 12th century, Dhammayan Gyi Phaya Temple (also known as Dhammayan-gyi) is the largest temple in Bagan. It has not received the same restoration attention as some of the other temples, and its dark inner halls are now home to hundreds of bats. Its tower has not been restored, making it unique among Bagan's larger temples.
