  • Child-saint Sambander, a bronze statuette from India, state of Tamil Nadu, Chola dynasty, and dated to teh 12th century.  Sculpture on display in an exhibit of Asian art in the Freer Gallery of Art in Washington DC. Sitting on the National Mall and part of the Smithsonian Institution, the Freer Gallery opened in 1923 to house the art collection of Charles Lang Freer. It has since been merged with the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery to form the National Museum of Asian Art for the United States of America.

It is a crude copy of the statue of Aphrodite known as the Medici Venus in Florence, Italy, which is itself a 1st century BC copy of the Aphrodite of Cnidus. The Istanbul Archaeology Museums, housed in three buildings in what was originally the gardens of the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul, Turkey, holds over 1 million artifacts relating to Islamic art, historical archeology of the Middle East and Europe (as well as Turkey), and a building devoted to the ancient orient.
