They are the tombs of the Teutonic crusaders who helped the first king, Afonso Henriques, in the conquest of Lisbon. The Monastery of São Vicente de Fora is a 17th-century church and monastery in the Alfama neighborhood of Lisbon. It features ornately decorated sections in the Baroque style as well as the Braganza Pantheon, where the kings who ruled Portugal between 1640 and 1910 are interred.

  • At the base of two of the 336 columns in the cistern are two heads of Medusa. One is upside down and the other is sideways. Why they were placed that way is unknown. The cistern, located 500 feet of the Hagia Sophia on the historical peninsula of Sarayburnu, was built in the 6th century during the reign of Byzantine Emperor Justinian I.
