Harpers Ferry Shepherd Monument

The Shepherd Monument in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, is dedicated to Heyward Shepherd, a free African-American railroad baggage master who was shot and killed when John Brown led an attack against Harpers Ferry on October 17, 1859, to launch a war against slavery. The monument was unveiled on October 10, 1931.
