2012 Cherry Blossom 10-Miler Kiprono and Kiplagat at Start

Some of the elite men runners on the start line just moments before the start of the 2012 Cherry Blossom 10-Miler. In the center of frame, in the number 9 bib, is the eventual winner, Allan Kiprono from Kenya, who set a new course record of 45:15. To his right, in number 11, is Lani Kiplagat, also from Kenya, who came second in 46:28. This year was the 40th running of the race that is run every spring in Washington DC to coincide with the National Cherry Blossom Festival. The course starts near the Washington Monument, heads over Memorial Bridge and back, goes up under the Kennedy Center, around the Tidal Basin and past the Jefferson Memorial, and then does a loop around Hains Point back to the finish near the Washington Monument.
