Durse, and Toralf Girunded during their wintering in Esperanza Bay as part of the Swedish Antarctic Expedition of 1901-1904. They constructed a small stone shelter and survived on penguin meat. The items in the exhibit, including the cooking pots and the collapsible wooden table, are original items recovered from the base.
