Ek Balam / Yucatan / Mexico

The ancient Mayan ruins at Ek Balam in the heart of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula receive less attention than the more famous Chichen Itza, but the provide a remarkable historical window onto the once-thriving Mayan civilization. It includes some incredibly ornate stone carvings and an impressive Acropolis.
